How My Heat Works: Enid Cook '31 Center and New Dorm

The heating system for ECC and New Dorm is controlled by a boiler, which is natural gas fired. This boiler heats water that gets pumped through a Main Heating Valve (MHV) and then through the fan coil units in each room.

Each room has a thermostat that controls the temperature in that room (see photo). To adjust the temperature, make sure the dial on the left side reads 鈥淎UTO,鈥 select the desired room temperature from the dial at the top, and then push the top button on the unit (the button above the symbol with the person in the house).

Note: The main heating valve closes any time the outside air temperature is above 60掳贵. This means that the heat is essentially 鈥渙ff鈥 when the outside temperature reaches 60掳贵.

Between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, during the heating season, the target temperature range in all the dorms will be set back to 65-67掳贵.
