Sign Up for Fall Presentation Skills Workshop Series

The following email was sent to staff by Academic Program Administrator Sarah Theobald on Friday, October 23.

Dear Staff,

Are you interested in learning specific skills to help you better use presentation tools? Would you like to further develop your ability to effectively communicate your ideas? Come join a cross-departmental group of staff and faculty with a passion for presenting and enabling effective communication as we explore 6 diverse topics this fall as part of the Presentation Skills Workshop Series

These workshops are open to all staff and faculty. Please read the descriptions before registering using the appropriate LibCal signup link. Seats are limited so sign up soon!

All sessions will be held in Canaday 315.  

1) Taking Screenshots and Manipulating Photos in MS PowerPoint

Time: 11:00-12:00pm 
About: In this workshop, you will learn how to take a screenshots, edit images using Microsoft PowerPoint, and explore effective ways to use graphics in your presentations.

2) Extend Your Reach with Asynchronous Presentations 
Date: 
WednesdayNovember 4th
Time: 4:00-5:00pm
About: You might send PowerPoint slides to folks who couldn't attend your presentation, but slides don't always tell the whole story. Make sure your voice is heard by learning the basics of creating asynchronous presentations. This interactive workshop will introduce you to recording narrations, utilizing screen-casting tools, editing, and other considerations. Communicate your message anytime, anywhere!

3) Cutting Down and Handing Out
Date: 
TuesdayNovember 10th 
Time: 1:00-2:00pm
About: This workshop will help attendees learn to use a critical eye when inserting text into their slide presentation and overview ways to cut down on lengthy text boxes. Also, the workshop will consider how to successfully employ many different versions of the same presentation depending on the situation - e.g., hard copy handouts, conference talk, online posting.

4) Communicating Your Ideas with Confidence

About: Do you want to learn how to be more effective - and more comfortable and confident - when you give presentations and speak to others in a professional context? Join Dr. Matt Ruben, Coordinator of Bryn Mawr's Public Speaking Initiative and Lecturer in the Writing Program, for a comprehensive, interactive workshop covering the human element in presentations and public speaking. Matt will cover the overall approach, organizing and communicating one's ideas, self-presentation, dialogue and Q&A, and more.

5) Present with the Power of Prezi 
Date: 
WednesdayDecember 2nd 
Time: 11:00-12:00pm 
About: This interactive workshop for  beginners will help you become familiar with the Prezi environment and allow you to discover Prezi's tools and their functionality as you work towards creating your own Prezi! No prior experience with Prezi or other presentation tools is necessary.

6) Beautifying Your Presentation's Data

TuesdayDecember 8th
Time: 11:00-12:00pm 
About: This workshop will allow attendees the opportunity to learn the basics of creating graphs and figures in PowerPoint to display data effectively. No previous experience necessary - anyone interested in learning fundamental and/or new ways to visualize their data can feel free to join!

The presentation tools discussed during the sessions may not be officially supported by the College. Users of these tools will be expected to self-teach, learn from interested colleagues, and consult documentation in continuing use of unsupported tools.
