Assistant Coach - Track & Field/ Cross Country

THE POSITION

Reporting the Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach, the primary Assistant Coach (Track & Field / Cross Country) will be responsible for the development and application of all components of the assigned event group programming for indoor and outdoor track seasons (candidates with both jumps and throws backgrounds are encouraged to apply). The position will require regularly assisting Cross-Country coaches in the training of the distance runners during the Fall months and supporting the home events for the Cross Country season. Responsibilities during the Track seasons include but are not limited to the development of specific training sessions for each athlete, oversight of the training of assigned event groups at practice, as well as coaching and support of athletes at competition. In addition to coaching duties, successful candidates will be tasked with Meet Day responsibilities (entries, food orders, transportation, etc). This position functions as the substitute Head Coach when the Head Coach is unavailable. The role requires that an ideal candidate be able to cover any and all coaching duties normally tasked to the Head Coach for short periods of time.

Start date: August 20, 2024

Salary:  $20,000 (pension benefit eligible)

1000 hours (mid-August through May)

MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors preferred. This position is set up as the first assistant. Optimal candidates will have 2-3 years’ experience coaching jumps and throws, and 3-5 years of experience competing in those same event groups. Candidates should possess either USATF or USTFCCCA certifications or be able exhibit knowledge consistent with those criteria. The ideal candidate will also have experience in leadership roles or as an interim Head Coach.  Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:      

Candidates should be able to lift 50lbs or more on a regular basis, should be mobile and able to move around large event areas, and be able to actively coach for up to 10 hours during a track meet when necessary.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS OF THE JOB DUTIES: 

Job includes coaching about both indoor and outdoor venues. Coaches may be subject to adverse weather conditions including wind, rain, sleet, and snow.

REQUIRED TRAINING:

USATF and/or USTFCCCA Certification in appropriate event groups preferred

Assistant Coaches are encouraged to get CPR/First Aid Certified
