Environmental Health and Safety Manager

THE POSITION

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager coordinates UUÖ±²¥'s environmental and occupational safety programs to maintain a safe and healthy environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors; ensure regulatory compliance; and control or reduce hazards and exposures detrimental to people, campus property and/or the environment.

This position addresses hazardous materials management, laboratory safety, safety training, occupational safety/injury prevention, indoor air quality, fire safety, asbestos management, and workers compensation.  The Manager will design and deliver EHS training and presentations.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, occupational health and safety, the sciences or allied health and minimum of three (3) years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

We require excellent customer service skills, demonstrated efficiency with Microsoft Office, the ability to lift at least 30 pounds, and must have physical mobility sufficient to travel campus, climb ladders and steps and to reach all sites requiring inspection.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations, and consensus standards including but not limited to OSHA, EPA, DEP, ANSI, NFPA, ACGIH, and Pennsylvania building and fire codes.  Must currently hold or be willing to obtain DOT HAZMAT certification, OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification, state certification in asbestos inspection and any other certifications the position may require during employment.

Previous experience at an institution of higher education is preferred as are professional certifications:

  • OSHA HAZWOPER training
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
  • Certification as an Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or in asbestos inspection.

Working hours may occasionally include evenings and weekends. The EHS Manager is a member of the campus emergency response team and is required to provide 24-hour emergency support when needed.

The salary range is $90,000 – $120,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
